get to know emy! πŸŽ€

''Be the woman you would look up to''

Hello, everyone! This is Emy and I'm currently a graduating grade 12 student at MCA Montessori School, and I created this blog to share my ten-day OJT experience at Barangay South Signal Barangay Hall under Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

A little about Em (me)

A consistent honor student who's really ambitious, driven, and passionate about learning, and especially when it comes to leading. I enjoy leading because it gives me the opportunity to inspire others, just as I aspire to be seen: as someone who is confident, hardworking, and dedicated. Other than learning, I also have a passion for fashion and pageantry. I just love how both allows me to express myself creatively while embracing confidence. These passions, along with my dedication to learning and leading, shows who I am and what I strive to be. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you guys that I want to become a successful chef that owns a restaurant in the future. I hope I can fulfill that dream! πŸ’—

Here's how my first day of OJT went!

Our call time was 7 AM, so I woke up at 3 AM to get ready. I left home at 6 AM—yes, it takes me hours to prepare (I'm just a girl). I was already nervous by that time because it was already 6 AM, and I was still far from my workplace. I was exhausted even before our work began. I live in Barangay Ususan, but I got assigned to Barangay South Signal, and I didn’t even know how to get there. I had to ask my classmates 😭.

Luckily, I arrived at around 6:30 AM. I checked the barangay hall, but I didn’t see any of my coworkers. So, I decided to go to McDonald's to buy an iced coffee because I was super sleepy at that time. After getting my coffee, I went back to the barangay hall and finally saw two of my classmates, Nelson and Echo! It was already 7:30, and our supervisor had just arrived. She told us we had to divide into two groups: A.M. and P.M. sessions. My classmates and I chose the P.M. session because we wanted to stick together, and I also have a hard time waking up early.

I was surprised because we didn’t actually do much that day. Our supervisor just gave us an orientation about what we’d be doing in PESO. She also explained the rules and dress code we need to follow; she told us to wear black tomorrow (I don't have any black-colored clothes that are not revealing😭). She dismissed us early, saying our work would start on our second day. Before going home, I treated myself  Llao Llao, a little reward for surviving my first day of OJT. Like they say,  "Celebrate the little things."

Challenging Second Day

Today marks the real start of my On-the-Job Training! Our supervisor informed us that the call time for PM sessions is at 12 noon. I started getting ready at 9 AM—super early, right? If you remember from my last blog, I mentioned that I don’t have any black clothes that don’t show too much skin. So, I had to get ready early to find something suitable for work!

I left the house at around 10:55 AM and arrived at my workplace exactly at 12 noon. Right on time! Our supervisor arrived an hour later, at 1 PM. She handed us the attendance sheet to fill out and then gave my coworkers and I a task: to distribute 10 survey questionnaires to people aged 18 and above. The survey was about employment, and we also had to provide pictures as proof.

This task was a big challenge for me because, honestly, I’m super shy when it comes to approaching people. I’m the type of person who waits for others to make the first move in conversations. But with the help of my classmates that is also my coworkers, Nelson and Echo, I managed to gather some responses. We spent the day roaming around Arca South, searching for people willing to answer our survey.

I felt so shy and embarrassed whenever someone turned us down. But guess what? I did it! I managed to get all 10 surveys answered. Thanks to my family and friends who answered the survey LOLLL

Third Day in OJT

This day is not as challenging like yesterday. My supervisor told me to check the answers on the survey and she gave me a notebook where I have to write their responses. After doing paper works, the barangay staffs were asking for help to carry some things because the new materials for Ballecer Court have arrived. We successfully carried it, and they asked us if they can take a picture of us with the materials. Oh, we also did a video greet saying thank you to the mayor for sponsoring the materials. There's nothing really exciting that happened this day, our supervisor even allowed us to sleep. 😜

Fourth Day of OJT

As usual, I started getting ready at 9 AM and left home by 11 AM. I was really hoping we’d do something more challenging and fun today. But guess what? We ended up doing paperwork again!!! My hand hurts from all the writing I had to do, but I have no choice but to endure it since it’s part of my job. 😭

After finishing my work, Ms. Christine, our supervisor, mentioned that the barangay is hosting an event tomorrow. She said we need to be at Ballecer Court by 11 AM, tomorrow. I felt so excited and couldn’t help but wonder about what we'll do tomorrow!

fifth day! πŸŽ€

Enjoyable Fifth Day

By the way, I forgot to tell you that our supervisor assigned me to be the leader of the PM session. Ms. Christine told us to come earlier than 12 noon, but I ended up arriving at 12 noon exact. My coworkers were already there waiting for me. We were at Ballecer Court because the barangay was hosting a Zumba battle. Our task was to decorate the venue, and honestly, I had so much fun because I absolutely love decorating stuff. Oh, I almost forgot to mention, this event also had awards, like pageant-style trophies and sashes.

While decorating, I helped make the sashes and prepare the other awards since, as you know, I love anything related to pageants. After that, I set up the table where the awards and trophies would be displayed. We finished decorating the venue around 3 PM. The event wasn’t starting until 6 PM, so we had a lot of free time.

We tried to sleep, but we couldn’t because we were just lying on the tables. Some of my coworkers played basketball, while others just lay around and scrolled through their phones. By 5 PM, the Zumba dancers started arriving in their shiny, sparkling costumes! Thirty minutes later, all ten competing groups were there.

We began assisting them since the event was about to start. After that the barangay assistant gave us biscuits as a token of appreciation for our hard work. They also told us we could head home since it was already 6:30 PM and getting dark. I really enjoyed today because, to be honest, I’ve been so bored of doing paperwork. HAHAHA 😭

Sixth day full of laughter

4 days left and my OJT journey is about to end. This day, Ms. Christine asked me about what we did in the event last Friday. After that she gave me the attendance sheet and daily-time-record so I can now distribute it to my coworkers. We didn't really do anything this day, other than laughing with my friend and paperworks. After that we have our free time so Zoilo and I decided to draw random faces and we ended up laughing so loud 😭. We were dismissed 1 hour early so we decided to go to Chanel Paris Hotel, where my other classmates are working. We stayed in   there for 30 minutes and I took a lot of pictures in the balcony. That's it for my sixth day working under PESO!

seventh day! πŸŽ€

Interactive seventh Day

I can’t believe it’s already my seventh day here, and I only have three days left to work! Time flies so fast. Yesterday, Ms. Christine told us that there wouldn’t be any more separate A.M. and P.M. sessions. Since our OJT is about to end, we now have to work for the whole day.

Today, I arrived at the workplace early (as usual). Ate Meriam, one of the barangay staff, assigned me to assist her at the information desk. She showed me what I needed to do, and I ended up interacting with a lot of people. I was super shy at first, but Ate Meriam made sure I felt comfortable. She even told people, “Ah, she’s introverted,” which made me laugh because, she’s not wrong, I do tend to respond with fewer words. πŸ˜“

As the day went on, Ate Meriam and I talked. She was curious about me and asked about my future plans. We ended up having this deep conversation about life, my goals, and even some of my school problems. It felt surprisingly easy to open up to her, and I really appreciated how supportive she was.

I spent the whole day working, talking, and bonding with Ate Meriam. I felt so comfortable that I didn't interact with any of my workmates except for Zoilo and I completely forgot to sign my attendance sheet, Ms. Christine scolded me because of that😭. Lesson learned: don’t let good vibes make you forget your responsibilities!

eight day! πŸŽ€

Eight Day of OJT

Work for whole day again, waking up early is still a struggle for me, my body clock is a certified mess. So, guess what? I ended up arriving late today. πŸ˜… Lucky for me, our supervisor wasn’t there when I got in (talk about dodging a bullet)!

At around 8 AM, Ms. Christine arrived, handed us the attendance sheet, and told us we’d be doing paperworks again (yes, for the nth time). Honestly, I was hoping for something new, but hey, it’s all part of the work. We did our tasks, and before we knew it, we ran out of things to do. Surprisingly, instead of giving us more work, our supervisor said we could have free time to do whatever we wanted.

During the downtime, I decided to read the self-help book I’d been meaning to read. It felt good to spend some time feeding my mind and resetting my perspective. Who knew free time at work could be so productive?

Fast forward three hours, and Ms. Christine dropped an announcement: evaluations are happening on our last day! She reminded us to print our evaluation forms and bring them tomorrow. Oh, and we need to buy A4 parchment paper for our OJT certificates. It hit me then—our journey is almost over!

Today was a mix of calm, reflection, and a little bit of panic at the thought of evaluations. But all in all, it was a solid day. Time to prep for what’s ahead. Bye for now!

ninth day! πŸŽ€

Second to the last day

Today, I was determined not to be late. I set multiple alarms, practically flew out of bed (super oa ko diba), and made it to the workplace on time, all I can say is miracles do happen! At 7 AM, our supervisor was already there, ready to hand out the attendance sheet and paperworks. This time, the pile of paperworks was massive. It took me two hours to get through it all. My left hand is numb!!

Once I was done, I handed my printed evaluation form and A4 parchment paper to Ms. Christine. Not going to lie, I was low-key freaking out. What if she gives me a bad evaluation score? Overthinking to the max!

After that, we got free time again, which meant Mobile Legends with Zoilo! πŸ•Ή️ We had a great time playing, and things got even better when Ms. Christine casually joined our conversation. She asked about our college plans and future ambitions, and honestly, it was the first time we’d ever had a chill, casual talk.

Turns out, Ms. Christine is pretty cool when she’s not all about work. It was fun getting to know her outside the usual supervisor vibe. And guess what? She let us go an hour early since there wasn’t much left to do. One more day to go, let’s make it count!

last day! πŸŽ€

Mixed Emotions, Last Day Feels!

I can’t believe today is my last day of OJT, and I’m heading back to school. πŸ˜‘ I made sure not to be late today since it’s the final day of this whole journey. When Ms. Christine arrived, she handed out the attendance sheet and stamped it, officially marking that we were DONE.

She then gave us one last set of paperwork to finish. After that, Ate Meriam handed me a letter that totally made my day. I was honestly so touched by it. It was such a sweet gesture that I’ll keep with me for sure.

But then, the nervousness came back to my body because our supervisor started grading us. 😭 The anxiety was real, especially since I was so curious about how she will evaluate us. When I finally saw my grade, I can't help but smile. I got a perfect score!  Ms. Christine told me I deserved it since I was the leader of the P.M. session and did pretty well. That assurance felt amazing.

Oh, and she also complimented my outfits for the past few days. She told me that my style is “super girly,” and she even asked how I manage to stand and work for hours in high heels.

As the day came to a close, I said my goodbyes and thanked everyone at the barangay hall for letting me be part of this OJT experience for the past 10 days. After that, I treated myself to McDonald's from my mom’s store to celebrate the end of my OJT journey.

And that’s a wrap on my OJT  journey!  Thank you so much for reading, and here's to more adventures ahead!
